Birthday gifts for a 13 year old

Last month Lilly turned 13, officially a teenager! I really struggled to find what she wanted for her birthday but got there in the end. I wanted to share with you all the bits that we got as it may help someone else find something for a gift. 

Lilly has main presents and I also make a paper mache egg which I fill with little bits and bobs for her to pick out. 

Six reveal ticket and Scrapbook stickers - Lilly's main present was a trip to see SIX in Brighton on her birthday so we got a reveal ticket and some stickers too.
W7 Skin care - Skin care is important to her, especially with her turning 13, I founf this set which was very reasonably priced adn seems to work well too. 
Wednesday Lego set - Who doesn't love Wednesday? Lils really enjoyed the series and wanted some Lego for her birthday so thought this was a great idea. 
Toothless Funko Pop - Lilly really got into how to train your dragon this year and loved the character, Toothless, I managed to find this cute Funko pop for her collection.
13th birthday bracelet - With her turning 13 I wanted to get something for her that was special, this is made out of natural healing stones and feels lovely to touch. 
Guitar pic holder - :ast year at school she started to learn guitar with her friends and has accumulated a few pics so thought I would find some storage for them.
Stitch pyjamas - These were brought in the sale at primark last year, Olivis also has a set too and they are so cosy. 
Retro mini brands ball - Lilly has been collecting mini brands for years and this was another lot to add to her collection. 


In her paper mache egg were a few small items that I thought she would enjoy, this is something that I have been doing since she was four starting off with little surprise toys and now including make up and sweets.

These are all the gifts we got her and she seemed to love every since one of them. I hope that this may have given you some inspiration for someone.

I have recently started making my own Cottage pie with a recipe that I have tweeted to work four our fussy family. I find that a cottage pie is such an Autumn/Winter staple as it feeling like such a warm, hearty meal, one that is a proper comfort meal.  I recently started making the meal and found that I didn't have a packet mix in so decided to find a recipe to try out, the first one I found sounded good but I changed it slightly to fit our family, Lils isn't keen on fresh onion ad none of us like celery. Burger seasoning recipe

With the weather warming up and the BBQ season well on its way, I wanted to share a recipe with you that is a firm favourite in our house, this recipe will help elevate you BBQ tastes with the yummiest burgers that have so much flavour.  Its such a simple seasoning to make and one that you will be able to store for future use too. 1 tsp Salt 1 tsp Freshly ground black pepper 1 tbsp Paprika 1 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder 1 tsp Onion powder 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper We add these herbs and spices into a pestel and mortar and given them a good mix together. When the time comes to make these tasty burgers just grab some 5%  mince and shape into burgers, we now have a burger press to make them more even, then when cooking sprinkle some of the seasoning onto the top side of the burger and flip, then repeat till both sides are covered evenly.  The summer holidays can be scary for some parents knowing that there budget doesn't stretch far, I try to keep to a strict budget so we don't go beyond our means, this means that some days are in with free activites and crafts. So here are some free/cheap ideas to keep you and the kids entertained over the holidays. Rock painting and hiding Lego building Pet pals workshop (Pets at home) Den making Baking ( Cookies , Cupcakes ) Cinema (kids club) National trust (vouchers are very useful) Beach/park  Summer reading challenge (local libraries) Scavenger hunt / nature hunt These are just a few things that we get up to in the summer holidays. I normally put these and more in an envelope and get the girls to pick something out when the day is slow or there bored. I really hope these help and would love to hear what you get up to as well.
