Halloween stories we love

With Halloween being just days away I wanted to share a few of our favourite seasonal books with you. In the new house with have this beautiful sheflf built into the wall and the moment I saw it I new I had to use it to display these books and future seasonal books too.

Room on the broom - An absoloutle classic in my eyes and one that we do read throughout the year as we all love it so much.
The dinosaur that pooped Halloween - This is another story that is always in our book baskets that we have as Olivia loves the dinosaur that pooped series.
Where's Mrs Witch - This one one that may be retiring this year as Olivia is slowly avoiding this more and more but I no and certain someone who will benefit from it. 
Were going on a pumpkin hunt - A story that has been adapted from a well known story meaning that we both love this, we both make the noises whilst reading it. 
Little Miss Sunshine and the wicked witch - We have had this story for a while and you can't go wrong with a Mr Men/Little Miss book, they always make you smille.
10 Trick or treaters - This is one of my favourites, not only is it a catchy story but it also teaches children how to count from 10 - 0.

 These are Oliva's favourites right now, but I know that this will change as Olivia gets older. I have really enjoyed setting up this for Olivia and can't wait to do the same for Christmas too.

Cottage pie recipe

I have recently started making my own Cottage pie with a recipe that I have tweeted to work four our fussy family. I find that a cottage pie is such an Autumn/Winter staple as it feeling like such a warm, hearty meal, one that is a proper comfort meal.  I recently started making the meal and found that I didn't have a packet mix in so decided to find a recipe to try out, the first one I found sounded good but I changed it slightly to fit our family, Lils isn't keen on fresh onion ad none of us like celery. I thought I would share our recipe with you which can easily be adapted if need be. Recipe 500g Beef Mince 1 carton of tomato passata  1 tbs tomato paste 1 beef stock cube 1 beef stock pot 1 tsp onion salt 1 tsp garlic granules 1 tsp mixed herbs 2 medium carrots sliced and part cooked Salt and pepper 3 large potatoes for mash 75g cheese Method 1. Burger seasoning recipe

With the weather warming up and the BBQ season well on its way, I wanted to share a recipe with you that is a firm favourite in our house, this recipe will help elevate you BBQ tastes with the yummiest burgers that have so much flavour.  Its such a simple seasoning to make and one that you will be able to store for future use too. 1 tsp Salt 1 tsp Freshly ground black pepper 1 tbsp Paprika 1 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder 1 tsp Onion powder 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper We add these herbs and spices into a pestel and mortar and given them a good mix together. When the time comes to make these tasty burgers just grab some 5%  mince and shape into burgers, we now have a burger press to make them more even, then when cooking sprinkle some of the seasoning onto the top side of the burger and flip, then repeat till both sides are covered evenly. Summer holidays on a budget | 10 ideas

 The summer holidays can be scary for some parents knowing that there budget doesn't stretch far, I try to keep to a strict budget so we don't go beyond our means, this means that some days are in with free activites and crafts. So here are some free/cheap ideas to keep you and the kids entertained over the holidays. Rock painting and hiding Lego building Pet pals workshop (Pets at home) Den making Baking ( Cookies , Cupcakes ) Cinema (kids club) National trust (vouchers are very useful) Beach/park  Summer reading challenge (local libraries) Scavenger hunt / nature hunt These are just a few things that we get up to in the summer holidays. I normally put these and more in an envelope and get the girls to pick something out when the day is slow or there bored. I really hope these help and would love to hear what you get up to as well.
