Christmas stories we love | Blogmas day 2

Every story holds a memory of years gone by and I absolutely love to tell and retell these stories as my children grow. This is just a selection of Christmas/festive books that we have but these are also our favourite ones too.

The dinosaur that pooped a reindeer - This story just makes us laugh and adds to our dino that pooped collection. 
Kevin and Katie's Christmas adventure - We have many of the Kevin and Katie stories from over the year thay we love to read. 
Santa comes to Hastings - A special one for me, my Mum brought this for Lilly and it always brings back a moment in time.
Squirrels Snowman - We love a bit of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler in this house so this is a story we enjoy. 
Mogs Christmas calamity - This is a bit odd but I love that it shows that Christmas isn't about it being perfect but about who you spend it with.
The Snowman - A classic story that we love both in book version and film.
Betty and the Yeti - A lovely story if not judging a book by its cover.

As I said this is just a small amount of stories that we love and read, I am so glad that both my children have loved bedtime stories and that I get to create these times with them rhat I hope theu won't forget.

Cottage pie recipe

I have recently started making my own Cottage pie with a recipe that I have tweeted to work four our fussy family. I find that a cottage pie is such an Autumn/Winter staple as it feeling like such a warm, hearty meal, one that is a proper comfort meal.  I recently started making the meal and found that I didn't have a packet mix in so decided to find a recipe to try out, the first one I found sounded good but I changed it slightly to fit our family, Lils isn't keen on fresh onion ad none of us like celery. I thought I would share our recipe with you which can easily be adapted if need be. Recipe 500g Beef Mince 1 carton of tomato passata  1 tbs tomato paste 1 beef stock cube 1 beef stock pot 1 tsp onion salt 1 tsp garlic granules 1 tsp mixed herbs 2 medium carrots sliced and part cooked Salt and pepper 3 large potatoes for mash 75g cheese Method 1. Burger seasoning recipe

With the weather warming up and the BBQ season well on its way, I wanted to share a recipe with you that is a firm favourite in our house, this recipe will help elevate you BBQ tastes with the yummiest burgers that have so much flavour.  Its such a simple seasoning to make and one that you will be able to store for future use too. 1 tsp Salt 1 tsp Freshly ground black pepper 1 tbsp Paprika 1 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder 1 tsp Onion powder 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper We add these herbs and spices into a pestel and mortar and given them a good mix together. When the time comes to make these tasty burgers just grab some 5%  mince and shape into burgers, we now have a burger press to make them more even, then when cooking sprinkle some of the seasoning onto the top side of the burger and flip, then repeat till both sides are covered evenly. Summer holidays on a budget | 10 ideas

 The summer holidays can be scary for some parents knowing that there budget doesn't stretch far, I try to keep to a strict budget so we don't go beyond our means, this means that some days are in with free activites and crafts. So here are some free/cheap ideas to keep you and the kids entertained over the holidays. Rock painting and hiding Lego building Pet pals workshop (Pets at home) Den making Baking ( Cookies , Cupcakes ) Cinema (kids club) National trust (vouchers are very useful) Beach/park  Summer reading challenge (local libraries) Scavenger hunt / nature hunt These are just a few things that we get up to in the summer holidays. I normally put these and more in an envelope and get the girls to pick something out when the day is slow or there bored. I really hope these help and would love to hear what you get up to as well.
