Drusillas park | Family day out

Animals, rides and a huge play area, what more could you need for a great day out. Drusillas has all this to offer in one area.

Last weekend we took a trip across to Drusillas Park, this is a local zoo to us and I was so excited to take the girls back. We arrived around 10.20 so we could make a full day off it. We picked up our zoolympics book and Animal spotter book as we went in and started to find some new furry friends.

On the way round there are tasks to do compare you to animals such as how high can you jump, or how fast can you run, these can be recorded in you zoolympics book. There are stamp areas for you spotter book too.

When you enter you are immediately greeting by animals, these are the smaller ones including spider monkeys, sloths and marmosets. The animals are very active in this area and really get you excited for the rest of the visit.

There is one route around so its very hard to grt yourself lost. The animal spotter also keeps you on track too. As we walked around around we found a beautiful lynx, he actually came right upto the class which was amazing. The penguins were amazing and Olivia absolutely loved them.

They do have a sensory section called Spark, with a small extra payment, we didnt go in there on this visit as it seemed very busy. This was right near the otters, they were so funny, theu ran up and started squeaking as one of the keepers walked past.

The animals area took us a good 2 1/2 hours to walk through, we took our time and enjoyed each animals we went round. The keepers and volunteers were amazing, they were so welcoming and answered questions if we had them.

There is a dinosaur area with animatronics and photo opportunities. After this you head to the area with some paid extras, food area, play area and gifts shops. This is also where you join the little train that takes you round the park. We stopped here for lunch and a rest before tackling the rides.

Talking of rides, this is such a lovely part, these are all designed for young children and are all themed around animals. They have the rainforest carousel, flying cheetahs, jungle jeeps and others too. There was one of out order, we were made aware of this before we even entered the park.

We ended the day in the playpark which is huge, they have loads of different sections for the children to enjoy and in summer there is a water park area to enjoy too. We did also visit the giftshop, there are many teddies in there but also some other bits too. We got a keyring, a lanyard and a tumbler too. All of these were priced under £3.

It was honestly a fantastic day out, the kids had an amazing time, learnt some new facts and used lots of energy up through the day.
