March Recap | 2025

Well March flew by in a flash, with events and trips at school, renovating the garden and feeling so poorly with tonsillitis, throw in Liams birthday and Mother's day and you have a full month of craziness. 

March started off with dressing up as book characters, both me and Olivia dressed up for school, I was princess Pearl from Zog and the flying doctors and Olivia was Alice in Wonderland. It's such an odd job where you can go in dressed up as a character.

We also enjoyed pancake day as a family, Olivia isn't keen on the crepe style burlt still had a go at flipping one.

The middle of the month was quite slow, I ended up getting tonsillitis and was quite poorly with it. Liam was incredible and kept an eye on me and the girls to let me rest and feel better. 

We have started renovating our garden with overfeeding the whole garden, planting bulbs and giving the fence a really good jet wash, the garden is looking so different already and I cannot wait for summer to actually be able to enjoy the fruits of our labour.

We ended the month celebrating Liams 34th Birthday, we had a day of chilling and enjoyed a takeaway and a chocolate cake. We also celebrated Mother's day, it's always a bitter sweet day but Liam makes me feel very loved. We had a quiet day with gardening, Liams Mum came over and Liam cooked his yummy burgers. 

All in all it's not been a bad month at all. Lots of memories made and laughs had too. Roll on a good April.

Cottage pie recipe

I have recently started making my own Cottage pie with a recipe that I have tweeted to work four our fussy family. I find that a cottage pie is such an Autumn/Winter staple as it feeling like such a warm, hearty meal, one that is a proper comfort meal.  I recently started making the meal and found that I didn't have a packet mix in so decided to find a recipe to try out, the first one I found sounded good but I changed it slightly to fit our family, Lils isn't keen on fresh onion ad none of us like celery. I thought I would share our recipe with you which can easily be adapted if need be. Recipe 500g Beef Mince 1 carton of tomato passata  1 tbs tomato paste 1 beef stock cube 1 beef stock pot 1 tsp onion salt 1 tsp garlic granules 1 tsp mixed herbs 2 medium carrots sliced and part cooked Salt and pepper 3 large potatoes for mash 75g cheese Method 1. Burger seasoning recipe

With the weather warming up and the BBQ season well on its way, I wanted to share a recipe with you that is a firm favourite in our house, this recipe will help elevate you BBQ tastes with the yummiest burgers that have so much flavour.  Its such a simple seasoning to make and one that you will be able to store for future use too. 1 tsp Salt 1 tsp Freshly ground black pepper 1 tbsp Paprika 1 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder 1 tsp Onion powder 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper We add these herbs and spices into a pestel and mortar and given them a good mix together. When the time comes to make these tasty burgers just grab some 5%  mince and shape into burgers, we now have a burger press to make them more even, then when cooking sprinkle some of the seasoning onto the top side of the burger and flip, then repeat till both sides are covered evenly. Summer holidays on a budget | 10 ideas

 The summer holidays can be scary for some parents knowing that there budget doesn't stretch far, I try to keep to a strict budget so we don't go beyond our means, this means that some days are in with free activites and crafts. So here are some free/cheap ideas to keep you and the kids entertained over the holidays. Rock painting and hiding Lego building Pet pals workshop (Pets at home) Den making Baking ( Cookies , Cupcakes ) Cinema (kids club) National trust (vouchers are very useful) Beach/park  Summer reading challenge (local libraries) Scavenger hunt / nature hunt These are just a few things that we get up to in the summer holidays. I normally put these and more in an envelope and get the girls to pick something out when the day is slow or there bored. I really hope these help and would love to hear what you get up to as well.
