December recap | 2025

December was probably one of the busiest months ever! I Feel like we didnt stop and this was thrown in with illness too.

The start if December was a little slow compared to the end. We started off with unpacking and an IKEA trip for furniture, which then lead to lots of building of said furniture so we could finally make this house a home.

We have also been planning our wedding too, with parcels being delivered, dresses to try on and invites to get sent out. We do like to add to all the manic stress of it all.

We had lots of school events, with Olivias nativity, where she played a camel, and then we had lil's school Christmas fair where she was singing in the choir as well as well. 

The Christmas holidays finally arrived and I definitely needed the rest, with the busy month my body decided to throw in a chest infection too. 

We finally had a chance to enjoy some time together and some time to do so festive things, we watched the festive tractor run, which included around 100 tractors all decorated for Christmas. We took part in a Christmas trail at a local venue and got to see Jack and the Beanstalk at our local theatre. 

Christmas was quiet, Liams Mum was poorly the whole time but we managed to enjoy opening our presents together and the kids loved every second by the seems of it. The evening consisted of Lils chilling and talking to her friends and Olivia building her new Lego set with me. 

All in all December was ok, it could have been a healthier one but we still made some lovely memories together.

I have recently started making my own Cottage pie with a recipe that I have tweeted to work four our fussy family. I find that a cottage pie is such an Autumn/Winter staple as it feeling like such a warm, hearty meal, one that is a proper comfort meal.  I recently started making the meal and found that I didn't have a packet mix in so decided to find a recipe to try out, the first one I found sounded good but I changed it slightly to fit our family, Lils isn't keen on fresh onion ad none of us like celery. I thought I would share our recipe with you which can easily be adapted if need be. Recipe 500g Beef Mince 1 carton of tomato passata  1 tbs tomato paste 1 beef stock cube 1 beef stock pot 1 tsp onion salt 1 tsp garlic granules 1 tsp mixed herbs 2 medium carrots sliced and part cooked Salt and pepper 3 large potatoes for mash 75g cheese Method 1. Burger seasoning recipe

With the weather warming up and the BBQ season well on its way, I wanted to share a recipe with you that is a firm favourite in our house, this recipe will help elevate you BBQ tastes with the yummiest burgers that have so much flavour.  Its such a simple seasoning to make and one that you will be able to store for future use too. 1 tsp Salt 1 tsp Freshly ground black pepper 1 tbsp Paprika 1 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder 1 tsp Onion powder 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper We add these herbs and spices into a pestel and mortar and given them a good mix together. When the time comes to make these tasty burgers just grab some 5%  mince and shape into burgers, we now have a burger press to make them more even, then when cooking sprinkle some of the seasoning onto the top side of the burger and flip, then repeat till both sides are covered evenly.  The summer holidays can be scary for some parents knowing that there budget doesn't stretch far, I try to keep to a strict budget so we don't go beyond our means, this means that some days are in with free activites and crafts. So here are some free/cheap ideas to keep you and the kids entertained over the holidays. Rock painting and hiding Lego building Pet pals workshop (Pets at home) Den making Baking ( Cookies , Cupcakes ) Cinema (kids club) National trust (vouchers are very useful) Beach/park  Summer reading challenge (local libraries) Scavenger hunt / nature hunt These are just a few things that we get up to in the summer holidays. I normally put these and more in an envelope and get the girls to pick something out when the day is slow or there bored. I really hope these help and would love to hear what you get up to as well.
